'NCIS: Origins' - 8 Stars Joining Cast of the Prequel Series!

The NCIS: Origins cast is getting even bigger.

Several more stars have since signed on as series regulars in the cast of the CBS prequel series, which just got a straight-to-series order for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

Here’s what to expect, via Deadline: executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.

11 Big Name Actors Were Once Considered to Play Gibbs on 'NCIS' (There Are 2 Oscar Winners On The List!)

It’s hard to think about anyone other than Mark Harmon playing the role of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS.

The 72-year-old actor played the iconic character on the JAG spinoff series for 19 seasons, becoming the second to last original series regular to depart the show.

In a recent feature from The Hollywood Reporter on the long-running and hit CBS drama series, creators Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, as well as several executives revealed that there were other names before Mark‘s who were mentioned for the part.

CBS Renews 'NCIS' for 22nd Season, 'The Neighborhood' for 7th Season

CBS has announced that two more shows are coming back for new seasons!

NCIS and The Neighborhood have both been renewed by the eye network.

NCIS will returning during the 2024-25 television season for its 22nd season on the air while the comedy series The Neighborhood will be back for its seventh season, making it the network’s longest-running current comedy series.

The Neighborhood and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement (via THR). “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”

Two NCIS shows have been renewed now and we await the renewal or cancellation decision on just one other series in the franchise.

Mark Harmon's 'NCIS' Character Almost Had a Completely Different Name

Mark Harmon revealed a fun fact about the very early days of NCIS: his character almost had a totally different name.

If you don’t know, the 72-year-old actor starred as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the CBS fan favorite for 19 seasons before exiting the long-running series in 2021.

Mark recently opened up about what initially intrigued him about the television role and how the series creator almost changed his character’s name to something very different.
