Michael B. Jordan Brings 'Just Mercy' To His Hometown!

Michael B. Jordan happily poses for a photograph while attending a special coummnity screening of his latest film Just Mercy held at CityPlex 12 Newark on Tuesday (December 17) in Newark, New Jersey.

The 32-year-old actor was accompanied by his co-stars Rob Morgan and Tim Blake Nelson, as well as author and executive producer Bryan Stevenson as he presented the film in his hometown.

Michael recently revealed that he insisted that the production, cast and set be all inclusive: “I think it’s time, honestly,” he explained on GMA. “The voice of the people is extremely powerful…and I think if we collectively continue to demand answers from these somewhat biased systems that we’ll start to see a change.”

Michael said Warner Brothers “ran towards the idea” of an inclusion rider — a clause in a contract which ensures gender and racial diversity in films.

“They adopted it with this movie but also Warner Media and all of their companies under their umbrella also adopted that inclusion act…so we had a chance to help write the language so now they hold their companies to a certain standard with that inclusion rider and I think that’s extremely important,” Jordan noted.

Michael B. Jordan Fights for Jamie Foxx in 'Just Mercy' Trailer - Watch!

Michael B. Jordan fights for justice for Jamie Foxx in the new trailer for their film Just Mercy.

The actors, ages 32 and 51, respectively, team up in the upcoming drama.

Here’s the synopsis: “A powerful and thought-provoking true story, Just Mercy follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Brie Larson).”

It continues, “One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.”

Just Mercy – based on the book by Bryan Stevenson – is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and also stars Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Karan Kendrick.

The film arrives in select theaters on December 25 and everywhere on January 10.

Michael B. Jordan & Brie Larson Talk About Playing Real-Life Superheroes in 'Just Mercy'

Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan pose for photos at the Just Mercy press conference during the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday morning (September 7) at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, Canada.

The actors, who are both Marvel stars, were joined by co-stars Jamie Foxx, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Rob Morgan, and Karan Kendrick, as well as director Destin Daniel Cretton.

At the premiere the night before, Michael and Brie talked about getting to play real-life superheroes in the film based on the true story of lawyer Bryan Stevenson.

“These are real-life superheroes,” MBJ told the crowd (via EW). “For me, this was very intimidating at first. After I got a chance to get to know [Stevenson] and his work, I felt like I had a great deal of pressure to get it right. I felt honored to be able to carry that weight and to be able to go to set every day and try to make a difference, and try to be a part of that change.”

Brie added, “I would go into the drudges for [Cretton] any time. But, really, the question was: Does Michael want me there? Because my only role in this was to support. This is the true definition of supporting role. I just wanted to be there for him, and to be given the opportunity to hold space for him was one of the most incredible experiences of my working life. We shared moments that mean so much to me, and this story is so powerful; Bryan’s voice is so powerful. Every day was a treat.”

FYI: Michael is wearing Sies Marjan. Brie is wearing Celine.
