Josh Groban is giving an eerie performance on Broadway as the title character in Sweeney Todd and he joined the cast to perform the opening number at the 2023 Tony Awards!

The 42-year-old actor was joined on stage by Ruthie Ann Miles, Gaten Matarazzo, Jordan Fisher, and more on Sunday night (June 11) at the United Palace Theatre in New York City’s Washington Heights.

The cast gave a great introduction to the musical for any new audiences by performing “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd,” which is the prologue to the show and sets the story.

Josh was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical while Ruthie Ann was up for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. The musical won for Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical.

Sweeney Todd is currently one of the hottest tickets on Broadway and the shows’ Tony-nominated stars are celebrating ahead of the big day this weekend.

Josh Groban and Ruthie Ann Miles stepped out together to attend New 42′s We Are Family Gala on Monday (June 5) at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Josh was honored with the New Victory Arts Award, which Ruthie presented. He received the award for his unwavering commitment to providing all kids with access to quality arts education.

Also in attendance at the event was Julianne Hough, who served as an event co-host!

Annaleigh Ashford walked the red carpet the next night at the 2023 Drama Desk Awards held at Sardi’s restaurant. She was honored with Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical for her work in Sweeney Todd.

Josh, Annaleigh, and Ruthie Ann are all nominated for acting awards at the 2023 Tony Awards, which will take place on Sunday, June 12.

Tickets for Sweeney Todd are currently on sale through January 14, 2024!

The nominations for the 2023 Tony Awards were announced this week and every actor who is nominated for their performance in a musical showed up for the Meet the Nominees event!

Sara Bareilles, Josh Groban, Ben Platt, and Alex Newell were among the stars in attendance at the event on Thursday morning (May 4) at the Sofitel Hotel in New York City.

The Tonys will take place on Sunday, June 11 and we can’t wait to see Broadway’s best highlighted throughout the show.

The Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd is officially open!

Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford hit the red carpet at the opening night performance on Sunday (March 26) at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York City.

They were joined by co-stars Jordan Fisher, Gaten Matarazzo, Ruthie Ann Miles, Maria Bilbao, Nicholas Christopher, Jamie Jackson, and John Rapson.

Here is the synopsis, via Playbill: “After 15 years in exile, Sweeney Todd, an unsettling man with a mysterious past, arrives in a dark and gritty London, hungry for vengeance against the judge who destroyed his life. Todd joins forces with Mrs. Lovett, the unhinged proprietress of a failing pie shop, and together they develop a spinetingling plot to exact revenge. When the lights go down and the curtain goes up, you won’t dare look away.”

The classic musical by the late Stephen Sondheim is now running through at least January 2024. Get tickets today!

There was a mini Hamilton reunion on stage at the 2022 Tony Awards!

Renee Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo presented an award together on Sunday (June 12) at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Their co-star, and the show’s writer, Lin-Manuel Miranda was also in attendance at the annual show.

Some more Broadway stars who were at the Tonys to present awards included Danielle Brooks, Patina Miller, Bebe Neuwirth, and former The King & I co-stars Kelli O’Hara and Ruthie Ann Miles.

Lots of former Tony Award winners returned to the annual show to help honor the best of Broadway!

Stephanie J. Block and Patina Miller were among the former winners who presented at the 2020 Tony Awards on Sunday (September 26) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

For those who don’t know, Stephanie won Best Actress in a Musical in 2019 for The Cher Show while Patina won the same award in 2013 for Pippin.

Other former Tony winners who appeared at the show to present included Bebe Neuwirth, Ruthie Ann Miles, and Cyndi Lauper.

Even though we’re in 2021, this is actually the 2020 Tony Awards because it’s the ceremony delayed from June 2020. The awards show will honor the best of Broadway’s 2019-20 season!

Ruthie Ann Miles has welcomed a baby girl!

The 37-year-old Broadway star took to her Instagram on Saturday (May 9) to announce that she and husband Jonathan Blumenstein had welcomed their daughter Hope Elizabeth.

“💛 3 generations of April Babies 💛,” Ruthie Ann wrote.

Ruthie Ann revealed back in March that she was expecting.

Back in March 2018, a pregnant Ruthie Ann and her 4-year-old daughter Abigail, as well as her friend and her friend’s one year old son Joshua, were leaving a church event when they were mowed down by a car. The two children tragically died.

Two months later, Ruthie Ann shared even more devastating news – she had lost her unborn child just weeks before her due date. Ruthie Ann and Jonathan were planning on naming their daughter Sophia.

Congrats to the happy family!
