'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Wins Friday Box Office, Though Another Movie Expected to Win the Weekend

The new horror film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is performing better than experts originally expected!

The movie topped the box office on opening day on Friday (August 9) with a gross of $8.8 million, though the film is not expected to win the full weekend.

Hobbs & Shaw made $7.9 million on Friday and it will likely top the weekend box office with around $25 million. Scary Stories is looking at pulling in $20 million to $22 million, according to THR.

Other new movies that were released this weekend include The Art of Racing in the Rain, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and The Kitchen.

The movie is from the mind of Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro, who contributed to the story.

Here is the movie’s synopsis: It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

Guillermo, director André Øvredal, and actor Austin Abrams attended a press event on Monday (June 3) in New York City to debut new footage.

'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Gets Eerie Teaser Trailer - Watch Now!

A teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming horror film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark!

The new film is from the mind of visionary producer and Academy Award winner Guillermo Del Toro. The movie was directed by André Øvredal.

Here is the film’s synopsis: “It’s 1968 in America. 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Debuts First Trailer at Super Bowl 2019 - Watch Now!

The first teaser for the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film was released during the 2019 Super Bowl!

While the teaser didn’t give too much away, it did feature a young woman running down the hallway at a school before running to the bathroom and finding some weird thing growing out of her cheek.

Here’s the official plot line: “It’s l968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.”
