Robert Downey Jr. is one of the first of many truly perfect casting decisions that Marvel made when building the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he was very nearly not cast as Iron Man.
The Oscar-winning actor kickstarted the MCU with the first Iron Man movie in 2008. Now, it’s abundantly clear that he is the “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” that is Tony Stark.
After entering the franchise, he played the iconic hero in 10 movies. He seemingly exited the role with 2019′s Avengers: Endgame, but there are some questions about a potential comeback.
Now it’s clear that he was the right choice. At the time, it was seen as a risk to cast him due to personal struggles. Marvel wanted to hit it out of the park and begin their franchise with a bang. They weren’t sure that he could do that.
This was before the MCU had become one of the biggest film franchises of all time. However, there was still a lot of interest in playing Tony Stark. In honor of the 16th anniversary of Iron Man this week, we did some digging and rounded up eight stars who were tied to the role.

The 49-year-old retired New York Yankees player and the 33-year-old model held has as they arrived at night one of the four-night American Express Presents Carbone Beach celebration on Thursday night (May 2) in Miami, Florida.

For their night out, Derek sported a pair of black athleisure joggers with a matching jacket and T-shirt while Hannah wore a chocolate brown dress with metallic strappy heels.
Derek and Hannah have been keeping a low profile this past year following the birth of their fourth child, son Kassius, who was born in May 2023.
The couple, who have been married since 2016, are also parents to daughters Bella, 6, Story, 5, and River, 2.
Back in September 2022, Bella adorably interrupted Derek‘s speech while he was being honored at Yankee Stadium!

The countdown to the return of Stranger Things is on!

For their outing, Tilda, 63, wore a blue puffer jacket with black pants and a leather hat while Sandro, 46, sported denim jacket paired with blue and green tie-dyed pants and orange sneakers.
A few days earlier, Tilda and Sandro were seen going for another walk together.
If you didn’t know, Tilda and Sandro have been together since 2004.

She recently made a big move that brought her closer to Adan, and reports revealed if they were living together.

The Grammy-nominated producer and DJ rang in 25 years of music-making with an incredible set of Retro5pective shows on May 2 and May 3 at Brooklyn Mirage in New York City, following his performance on April 27 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles – and he was joined by quite a few amazing special guests!
The well over three hour-long set showcased songs stretching back to his earliest days as a producer all the way to his most recent hits – including “Bored of Canada,” I Remember,” “Ghosts ‘N Stuff” and “Escape” – as well as teasing some still-unreleased IDs, tantalizing audiences with new projects on the way.
